Peter Capaldi Will Receive A Scottish BAFTA For His Contributions To Film And Television

Best known for his role as the Twelfth Doctor on Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi is now the most recent recipient of the prestigious Scotland British Academy Film & Television Awards (BAFTA) for Outstanding Contribution to Film & Television in 2022. Capaldi will receive the honor at the November 20 awards show.

Capaldi had a memorable debut as the Twelfth Doctor after taking over for Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor before starting his long run on the BBC show. He is also known for his BAFTA award-winning performance as Malcolm Tucker on the political satire show The Thick of It. Capaldi earned four BAFTA awards during the show’s run from 2005 to 2012.

Director of BAFTA Scotland Jude MacLaverty spoke of Capaldi:

“We are delighted to be presenting this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television to the exceptionally talented Peter Capaldi. Peter Capaldi is one of Scotland’s highest profile actors who has created some of film and televisions most iconic and much loved characters. His work has not only been recognized by his peers and the public, but has also inspired future generations of film and television makers. We are honored to present this award to Peter and look forward to recognizing his outstanding achievements in-person at the BAFTA Scotland Awards on Sunday 20 November.”

Capaldi has also earned honors on the other side of the pond. He won the 1994 Academy Award for his short film Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life. The same movie won a BAFTA award that year as well.

Other familiar names who have earned BAFTA awards include the late Robbie Coltrane and John Williams.
