Considering how popular the Reacher series became on Amazon's Prime Video streaming service, a third season being green-lit was great for fans to hear. With a third season comes the decision of which of the Reacher books will be the subject of the third season. Lee Child, author of the Reacher book series turned television series, has confirmed the book chosen to be translated onto the screen will be Worth Dying For. According to Screen Rant, Worth Dying For “fits the bill of a lone Jack Reacher story” as it is “described as one of the best in the series.”

The decision to turn the fifteenth book into the third season of Reacher might seem strange, but the plot of the eleventh book Bad Luck & Trouble was chosen for the second season. Despite the nonlinear book decisions, the author has made for the series, Reacher premiered with strong ratings and an abundance of material.

Amidst concerns about the titular Reacher being perceived as unlikable by the supporting cast, the third season will be focusing on Reacher’s lone-wolf characterization. This will allow Reacher to “return to its roots” and “honor Child's source material and season 2's divisive story.” As the story continues filming, Sharon Oliver of TV Fanatic predicts the third season will premiere on Amazon Prime between October and December of 2024 based on the past premiers of the earlier seasons “minus any unforeseen hindrances like strikes or Covid shutdowns”.

Predictions of the third season premiere aside, fans of Reacher and the original source material will have plenty to live up to. With the second season finale ending with several body counts, Reacher will have the chance for redemption and vengeance. Time will tell if he chooses one or the other, or both.
