In the past week, some details about The Acolyte were revealed to the public, but not from official sources. A post was made on r/StarWarsLeaks, a subreddit page for leaks regarding Star Wars-related productions. Readers were informed through the subreddit that the series is likely to shoot a few scenes in the Fanal Forest on Madeira Island.

This forest is located on Madeira Island, part of the Portuguese territory. The island features some incredible scenery, and once the fog rolls in they get even better for photography. A website dedicated to the news and facts regarding the Island and its tourism also confirmed this leak on March 9th.

According to the portal, This is Madeira Island,

We inform you that, on the next 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd of March, the Fanal leisure area, as well as several routes in the surroundings of the area where the centenary tildes and the car park are located, will be closed to the public due to the filming of the new Star Wars Serial.”

Another article from March 12th on the same website also gave more credibility to the leak, commenting that the Island saw an increase in movement from the huge production crew. The actors were yet to arrive, but everything seemed to be heading in the right direction. According to Madeira Island news, one specific location chosen by Lucasfilm was the North coast of the Island called Ribeira da Janela.

The other piece of news revealed is that The Acolyte is likely to be a big project for Disney although it did not conventionally come to light. Star Wars News Net highlights a lawsuit (which was disclosed by Deadline) between Karyn McCarthy and Lucasfilm regarding her position as the show’s producer. After the company let her go without warning or explanation, McCarthy sued them. The document regarding her settlement with LucasFilm is what matters. It states some important details regarding her hire and what Disney has planned for the series. It says that

On April 7, 2022, the showrunner/director of The Acolyte offered McCarthy the position of executive producer of The Acolyte and McCarthy accepted. McCarthy accepted Lucasfilm’s offer in part because Lucasfilm had assured her that the story arc of the show, as well as the company’s business plans, called for The Acolyte to run for multiple seasons. Lucasfilm followed up immediately that day with a secure link to the heavily guarded Series Overview (i.e., the story arc of the Series over multiple seasons) and Season One Bible (i.e., the detailed story outline, character descriptions and the world in which everything plays out)(...)

Per IMDB, The Acolyte is set to premiere in 2024, but there is no exact date so far. Names like Carrie-Anne Moss, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, and Jodie Turner-Smith have been confirmed to be characters in the series. Their roles have not been cast yet, and this will likely happen throughout the first half of this year.
