'Star Wars: The Princess And The Scoundrel' An Excerpt About Han And Leia's Honeymoon

Han and Leia embrace on the cover of Princess and the Scoundrel

With the Skywalker Saga finished, it’s beginning to feel like the good ole days of the Expanded Universe, where the heroes we once saw onscreen went on new adventures outside the bounds of the movies. Great stories like Shadows of the Empire or The Courtship of Princess Leia. While those are all relegated to the realm of Legends, over the past few years, it’s been made clear that the new canon willingly pulls from Legends and makes things canon. Like Thrawn, Mount Tantiss, and so on.

The upcoming novel The Princess and the Scoundrel looks like Star Wars will be taking another cue from Legends. This new story focuses on the love of Princess Leia and Han Solo, and after getting married, they embark on a honeymoon on the Halcyon, the luxurious star cruiser. But it seems they can’t wholly escape their past, with Leia coming to grips with her parentage, her Force sensitivities, and both dealing with an Empire struggling to find a grip after its crippling defeat at the moon of Endor. Today, StarWars.com released an excerpt from the book, giving us a preview of what will happen in the book.

RELATED:

The excerpt finds the couple settling into a room on one of the planets aboard the Halcyon, Han taking a load off, but Leia gets right to work. Unfortunately, that work seems to involve an ominously named “Black Tower” and a Prime Minister that both regard as a liar and planning ulterior schemes. Leia suspects the Black Tower has something to do with the Empire, especially since the Prime Minister apparently informed them that the Empire was there at one point.

Whether they remain is unknown, but it’s something Leia wants to make sure of. As Han tries to convince Leia they don’t have to run off and look into everything, Leia reveals what drives her to keep going and help people: Vader. She expresses to Han, who in true Han fashion pushed the thought of her father from his head, that when, not if, but when the galaxy finds out about who her father was — and if she gets a part within the new galactic government — they’ll come for everything she’s done with a magnifying glass and diminish every accomplishment and deed she’s done.

***Spoiler Alert***

If you’re up on your new canon novels, you’ll remember that Leia turns out to be correct. In the book Bloodline, Leia finds herself a part of the new government, but that new government is dealing with competing ideologies about the direction of the New Republic. Things get further complicated when Leia’s secret is finally revealed.

Paperback cover of The Courtship of Princess Leia

While it seems like the new book concerns a different plot than The Courtship of Princess Leia, the inspiration from the Legends novel is clearly there. It explores the blooming relationship between Han and Leia, and while they do that, they navigate the politics and landscape of a new galaxy without the oppressive yoke of the Empire. It’s still unknown where else they visit on their honeymoon or what else happens, but it will be interesting to see what else it reveals to fans as its inspiration once did. This refers, of course, to the revelation of the Night Sisters, a group of Force-sensitive witches who rode around on Rancors. Night Sisters are now canon, as they were featured in The Clone Wars and in Jedi: Fallen Order.

The Princess and the Scoundrel is due for release on August 16th.
