'Star Wars': Who Saved Grogu From The Jedi Temple During Order 66?

Warning! There are spoilers below for The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian!!!

The mystery behind who saved Grogu from the Jedi Temple during Order 66 has only grown greater since the airing of Chapter 6 of The Book of Boba Fett. In this episode, Luke Skywalker helps Grogu remember a piece of his past and gives fans a new glimpse into the Jedi Purge at the Jedi Temple. Much like many scenes featured in The Book of Boba Fett, this happened in a flashback showcasing a group of 501st Clone Troopers blasting three Jedi who were attempting to protect Grogu. Unfortunately, the identity of these three Jedi is unknown and, like the fate of most Jedi at the time, were killed by the Clone Troopers. It could be possible that in the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett, fans could finally get the answer to who saved Grogu. Here is a list of all possible candidates.

R2-D2

R2-D2 is the candidate most suggested when theorizing who could have saved Grogu. R2-D2 was on Coruscant during Order 66. While it did not show the droid during the initial march to the Jedi Temple, he was clearly seen in Anakin Skywalker’s starfighter when he visited Padme after the massacre. Many fans also believe R2-D2 to be the one to save Grogu by the way the droid approached Grogu at the end of The Mandalorian Chapter 16: The Rescue. It could be that R2 was simply happy to see a youngling safe and sound, or perhaps it was because he was reunited with the youngling he saved all those years ago?

Jedi Master Jocasta Nu

Another possible and likely person who could have saved Grogu is Jedi Master Jocasta Nu. She was one of the few Jedi to survive the initial Jedi purge of Order 66. She went into hiding while trying to protect and preserve what she could of the Jedi Order legacy and planned on starting a new school for Jedi. Unfortunately, she would meet her end by Darth Vader after she returned to the Jedi Temple in an attempt to retrieve a Holocron that contained a list of every Force-sensitive child cataloged before the end of the Clone Wars. It could be that she had saved Grogu and intended to continue his Jedi training in secret, but after being killed by Darth Vader, it would leave Grogu abandoned. This could also explain how he ended up in the hands of a Nikto encampment in the first episode of The Mandalorian.

Jedi Master Mace Windu

Master Windu is a very possible candidate for saving Grogu’s life. Despite having his right hand cut off by Anakin Skywalker and being thrown out of a window with Sith lightning, many fans still find it hard to believe that he would die from this. After all, Anakin lost his hand in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and time and time again in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars 2008 series, it shows Jedi jumping from ridiculous heights and landing unscathed. Even when Ahsoka Tano was only a Padawan, she could jump from a ship and land safely on a Separatist battle sphere while all of the clones accompanying her required jetpacks. Many fans believe that Master Windu survived, and it’s not unlikely that he would return to the Jedi Temple and manage to save a youngling before going into hiding. And while it doesn’t mean that the iconic character will make a return, Samuel L. Jackson, who first played Mace Windu in the prequel movies, has mentioned wanting to return as this character.

Jedi Master Plo Koon

While this one may be a long shot, Master Plo Koon could be responsible for saving Grogu’s life. It is no secret that Master Plo Koon is Dave Filoni’s favorite Jedi, but most fans might not know that the cast of The Mandalorian was told that Plo Koon would be the Jedi to appear at the end of season 2, not Luke Skywalker. This could have been a simple ploy to surprise the cast and to make sure no one gave the big reveal away, but it could also mean that Master Plo Koon was always intended to make a return. While it may be a stretch to explain how Master Plo managed to find a starship and make it all the way back to the Jedi Temple in time to save Grogu’s life, he may still be a possible candidate.

That is all the possible candidates that could be responsible for saving Grogu’s life. Let us know if we missed one or who you think it was to save Grogu? The season finale of The Book of Boba Fett premiers on February 9th, 2022.
