The Latest 'Silent Hill' Transmission Revealed The Franchise Has Been Very Busy

After almost a decade of dormancy following the 2014 release (and dramatic cancellation) of Hideo Kojima's P.T / SILENT HILLS, the SILENT HILL franchise has been thrust back into the limelight- with the airing of the SILENT HILL Transmission this Wednesday. The stream, running at barely an hour’s length, was packed full of announcements- so here is everything you need to know about the planned revival of Konami’s iconic survival horror game franchise.

First announced was a ground-up remake of SILENT HILL 2 for PS5 by Polish studio Bloober Team- the controversial developer behind Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium. Masahiro Ito (creature designer for SILENT HILL, 2 & 3) and Akira Yamaoka (original series composer, former SILENT HILL producer) return to the series, lending authenticity to the project. It is unknown whether any original Team Silent members involved in writing the story of James Sunderland have returned to lend their expertise.

The final game announcement arrived at the tail-end of the streamed presentation- a visual trailer for SILENT HILL f, developed by Neobards Entertainment (Devil May Cry: HD Collection) and written by Ryuukishi07 (Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry). Sporting a distinct artistic and musical departure from previous entries in the franchise, SILENT HILL f promises to tell an entirely new story- set in 1960s Japan.

Multimedia projects, too, were revealed. Return to SILENT HILL, a Christophe Gans (SILENT HILL, 2006) directed adaptation of SILENT HILL 2- is currently in early pre-production. SILENT HILL: Ascension, an 'interactive streaming experience' developed by Genvid Entertainmentwas also announced- and slated for a 2023 release. Viewers will reportedly have the option to make live, real-time choices that affect the story of Ascension and shape the canon of Silent Hill ‘forever'.
