A blast from the past has made its way back into the modern world. Bursts of nostalgia and a fondness for a simpler time are sure to flood back with the re-launch of the SEGA Genesis. Popular in the 80s and 90s, SEGA was known for being the platform for the popular game Sonic the Hedgehog. According to Player One, SEGA confirmed a Western release date for the mini console, with the SEGA Genesis Mini 2 launching on the same date as its Japanese counterpart on October 27. With the upgrade from the previous Genesis Mini to its current successor comes new changes and looks to the console along with a wide array of games to play.

During the height of its popularity, SEGA was responsible for forming the childhoods of many youths in the 80s and 90s. On top of Sonic, the first SEGA Genesis had players enjoying classic games such as The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Lightening Force, Shadow Dancer, Golden Axe II, Warsong, and Shinobi. With so many classic games rooted in the memories of gamers everywhere, the second Genesis has high expectations. According to SEGA’s official website, a shortlist of games to be included alongside the launch are Outrunners, Virtua Racing, After Burner II, Shining Force, Night Striker, Ninja Warriors, Lightening Force, and at least two variations of Sonic. Two bonus games are also stated: Fantasy Zone and Star Mobile. With smoother and crisper animation, the games have plenty of promise and might be comparable to their original counterparts.
