The Kugelblitz burns brighter than ever after Netflix announces picking up The Umbrella Academy for a fourth season—and its last. Steve Blackman begins and ends the series as executive producer.

The Umbrella Academy will see the return of its cast in the new season with Elliot Page (Viktor), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number 5), Justin H. Min (Ben), Ritu Arya (Lila), and Colm Feore (Sir Reginald Hargreeves). However, there was no announcement for the return of Season 3 regulars Adam Godley (Pogo), Genesis Rodriguez (Sloane), and Britne Oldford (Fei) as their characters’ fates were unknown at the end of Season 3.

Many fans are glad about the decision to make this The Umbrella Academy’s final season rather than trying to make a cash cow out of Netflix’s “Top 3 Most Popular” title, which, according to Reddit User @magevicky, would “undoubtedly result in a season ending in a cliffhanger followed by cancelation.”

As it stands, the show’s storyline has moved past the source material as creators Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá are allegedly still working on the fourth title, The Sparrow Academy. While the Sparrows were featured in this most recent season, Season 3 was based solely on Hotel Oblivion. It is currently unclear if the book will be out before this final season as Way is currently on tour with the band My Chemical Romance. The Umbrella Academy has had three published volumes since it began in 2007. During a 2019 interview with Collider, Way revealed that Netflix needed to be filled in on what's to come for The Umbrellas:

“What I did for [showrunner] Steve Blackman and the writers, in that first writers' room, was to create an eighteen-page document that laid everything out. Even if the graphic novels haven’t come out yet. Which should equal eight when we’re all done," he said. "So I gave them the blueprint for what happens because you do want to seed certain things in there for future series, and the hope is that it’s a success.”

There is no date yet for the final family meeting. Stay tuned, Brellies!
