Earlier last year on April 2nd, 2021, Del Ray announced on Twitter:

“As Lucasfilm celebrates its 50th anniversary, we’re curating a collection of essential #StarWars Legends novels in trade paperback with new covers.”

Now thanks again to Edelweiss+, we’ve been blessed with leaks of which novels are next in line for a glow-up this upcoming April 25th, 2023! The new covers aren’t available yet, but we can reflect on the original book covers (at bottom of the page) before we see the new interpretation on Del Ray’s Twitter.

RELATED:

First up, Into the Void: Star Wars Legends (Dawn of the Jedi) by Tim Lebbon. ISBN 9780593599471. Originally published on May 7th, 2013, this novel takes place thousands of years before the main storyline following Anakin’s bloodline, shortly after the founding of the first Jedi academy of Tython. This story specifically follows a “Je’daai Ranger”, Lanoraee Brock, whose solitary life full of peace-keeping missions is put on hold to prevent the possible destruction of an entire star system. The Knight’s Archives says:

“(This is) A good Star Wars adventure story with heart.”

Next is, Yoda: Dark Rendezvous: Star Wars Legends by Sean Stewart. ISBN 9780593599488. This novel was first published back November 23rd, 2004, providing a more in-depth insight into the emotional relationship between Master Yoda, and his apprentice Darth Tyranus, formerly Count Dooku. Introducing its stand-alone characters as well, the novel primarily follows Yoda during the Clone Wars era. One incredible and well-worded review from a longtime fan, Iset on GoodReads summarizes:

“No one is completely evil all of the time. Dooku is the sum of his experiences… it is presumed that merely letting a ‘bad’ character put their case is something to be avoided, and how many times have I seen a ‘good’ character, when listening to such a case, fall and become twisted?… If I have a criticism, it’s that the end is wrapped up almost too quickly and neatly, especially after the effort of setting it all up… Still, an enjoyable entry.”

The third novel for this re-release is Hard Contact: Star Wars Legends (Republic Commando) by Karen Traviss. ISBN 9780593599495. Published October 26th, 2004, this is another brilliant entry into the expanded universe of the Clone Wars era from the perspective of Republic Commandos of the Omega Squad who are joined by an inexperienced Padawan learner. Traviss further delves into their covert mission behind enemy lines as well as providing world-building material on the Mandalorians that trained the Omega Squad. Many fan-made reviews on Amazon and GoodReads cannot emphasize enough that this “tie-in” novel has become one of the many classics in the expanded universe.
