The finale for The Mighty Nein is finally here. This season was violent, emotional, hilarious, and very colorful. It introduced many new people to these wonderful characters. I can’t believe the season is already over, but I am excited for what season 2 will bring.
The Nein’s next mission is to steal the beacon for the Gentleman. This, of course, is easier said than done. They must attend a gala, where the beacon will be on display. The Nein devises a plan, with each member assigned their own role. Unfortunately, due to a possible conflict of interest, Beau is the one who must wear the pink dress and attend, instead of Jester. While she and Fjord attend the gala, the rest of the Nein are in their places to help with the mission. Nothing ever goes as planned with them, and Trent Ikithon finds out and puts a stop to it. They are eventually ambushed by members of the Kryn Dynasty, who return for their beacon. The ending reveals a familiar face under one of the helmets.

One of the coolest things this season did was the various foreshadowing of pivotal moments later in the campaign. One of these is the ‘Death’ card, consistently coming up for Mollymauk. I won’t give too much away, but new fans are in for an emotional awakening when it comes to the purple tiefling. Nott is terrified of water, and the reason why plays a big part in her backstory. That moment was one of the coolest in the campaign. This one was much smaller, but Pumat gave Jester some dust that enhances the flavor of any food you sprinkle it on. In the campaign, this is the dust of deliciousness. Jester uses this at a certain moment of the campaign, which remains one of my favorites to this day.
When all looks lost for our heroes at the end, Yasha comes to the rescue. Well, not really, but she does it without knowing. She has finally met up with the Nein, after many episodes teasing her arrival. Ashley Johnson plays Yasha and was gone for a lot of the second campaign. Yasha had such an interesting story, but it was so scattered throughout the campaign. The cast has said she will have a much bigger role in season 2, and in this story as a whole. Hopefully, this gives us more Yasha and expands on her story a bit, too. I am excited to see more of her in season 2 and have her finally join the Nein.

This season was amazing. The animation was great, and I loved how colorful it was. Eight episodes were too short. I appreciate the longer runtimes, but I do wish it had a few more episodes. As I have mentioned many times, The Mighty Nein is my favorite campaign from Critical Role. Getting to see these characters come to life on screen every week has been amazing, and I cannot wait to see them again in season 2.
