We’ve been waiting a whole year for season three of Pennyworth, after unfounded rumors of cancellations finally, a trailer has dropped. Pennyworth has been cursed with delays since Covid rocked season 1, but it seems as if production is now on track. The biggest change for the new season is the title. Whether it’s for SEO purposes or to inform viewers who might not be aware of Alfred’s last name, the show's full title is Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman’s Butler.

The new season begins five years after the events of ‘The Lion and The Lamb’. Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game, Endeavour) is reprising his role as the wise-cracking, ex-SAS future butler, and Paloma Faith is back as the femme fatale Bet Sykes. Ben Aldridge (Fleabag), Emma Paetz (Gentlemen Jack), and Jessica Ellerby (Lovesick) have also returned to the roster. The show portrays a highly stylized 1960s London reminiscent of a Danny Boyle movie in an alternative DC universe before John and Martha took a bullet in the streets of Gotham. The trailer is continuing the Kray-like atmosphere and it’ll be interesting to see more of Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon’s unusual take on the Batman-verse.

The first episode of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler airs on HBO MAX on October 6th
