Before anything was announced, before the project for the series was a thing, Eman Esfandi connected with his inner Jedi to foresee his role as Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka.

When Ahsoka first got announced, back in December 2020, the Star Wars fanbase exploded with excitement; not only was Ahsoka Tano, one of the most beloved characters from The Clone Wars, coming to live action, but characters like Sabine Wren were to appear in the spin-off series as well. This opened the possibilities for Ezra Bridger to come back to the screen after he disappeared during the Star Wars Rebels finale.

Eman Esfandi says he contacted his team regarding the role of long-lost Ezra: “I emailed my agent and manager six months prior to my audition and was like, ‘Hey when they cast for Ezra Bridger, I’m going to play him. So use these pictures,’”

Six months after the initial email, auditions for a character code-named “Riz” began. Esfandi and his team figured out the casting was actually for Ezra Bridger, so he submitted his self-tape, which included scenes from Top Gun as well.

“I wasn’t a Star Wars person before the show. I just didn’t grow up on it,” Eman admits. After they finished shooting Ahsoka, he admits to turning to the franchise and “inhaling all of it for six months”.

Regardless of his lack of familiarity with the character, or the Star Wars universe itself, Eman Esfandi had a tremendous performance as Ezra. Hopefully, we see more of him in Season 2 of Ahsoka or in other projects that, as he so eloquently stated during an interview, give a dignifying ending to his character.
