Diego Luna will soon be finished with Andor, and he’s ready for the break away from the Star Wars universe for his mental health.

“This is the last season for Andor,” Luna says. “It is just a two-season show, which is really important for my mental health. But knowing this is the end, I want to enjoy it and get the best out of this experience.”

Between production for the two seasons of Andor, Luna had spent two months onstage in Madrid leading Cada ves nos despedimos major, a small-scale monologue featuring himself with a musician. It acted as a way for him to destress from the much larger scale of the Star Wars universe. As Luna reveals, “In a way, it has kept me sane.”

Playing the character of Cassian Andor for the Disney+ series was something he wanted to do after taking on the role for Rogue One. He felt there was more to the story of his character, and he wanted to bring that to life. “What this character does in Rogue One is quite remarkable, and what we are building shows what needs to happen in someone’s life to be willing to sacrifice everything.”

After the second season of Andor wraps production, the theatre is likely to be where Luna heads next. Without a specific timeframe for his return to a larger-scale production, he could be there for some time.
