It is no secret that Hollywood does not have the best track record when it comes to diversity. This is especially apparent within the Star Wars universe. Fans have begged for the franchise to bring more diversity into its casts, and in the most recent content releases, it seems like Lucasfilm and Disney are finally listening. This trend will apparently continue with the highly anticipated series, The Acolyte

During a recent interview with the Dagobah Dispatch, the cast celebrated how diverse both the cast and crew are. The cast features actors of different races, gender identifications, and sexual orientations, making it one of the most inclusive Star Wars projects to date. The series lead, Amandla Stenberg, said “So to be in any way, shape, or form a part of the wave that is ushering in inclusion and safety for Black nerds, it’s my dream come true.” Her co-star, Lee Jung-Jae, expressed how refreshing it was to work on set with so many different perspectives and cultures. “We’ve all come from different corners of the world and it’s really great to get so many different people from different backgrounds to create this thing together.”

Pending any delays from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the show is expected to be released on Disney+ next year.
