Despite The Hollywood Strike, 'Andor' Remains In Production

With the current state of Hollywood and the addition of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, many productions that fall under its jurisdiction have been suspended. According to Deadline, production for season two of Andor, however, has yet to fully halt. A fair few of the production’s cast members are a part of Equity, the British acting union equivalent to SAG-AFTRA.

Since they are under a different union, if these production members were to walk off in solidarity they would be in breach of contract. Situations can change at any time, this is just the current state according to Deadline. The question falls to how long production can continue with a limited portion of the cast and if production will be halted due to that fact. Until then, Andor will continue with the cast that they still have.

The creator of the series, Tony Gilroy, has been on strike for applicable duties as he is a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA). Both unions are on strike following two failed contract negotiations. Some of what the WGA is fighting for includes a fairer residual pay in the era of streaming platforms, AI regulations, and more involvement throughout the process, among other things. SAG-AFTRA has similar goals and has joined the WGA on the picket line.

While these events continue, the first season of Andor can be streamed on Disney+. It is set five years before A New Hope, presenting a new perspective of Star Wars and showing the foundation of the Rebellion. The show is set up so that season two will lead directly into Rogue One.
