Months before his official debut in the MCU, Deadpool is already breaking walls and records with the first trailer for the third movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

Within the first 24 hours after the trailer’s release during the Super Bowl, the trailer reached 365 million views, breaking the record for the most-viewed movie trailer of all time. Deadpool took the throne from its previous owner, fellow Marvel production Spider-Man: No Way Homewhich reached 355.5 million views within its first 24 hours online.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26. This movie will definitely mark a before, and an after, in the post-Endgame MCU. By watching the trailer, it is clear that Disney’s family-friendly style did not consume Deadpool: he mocks Disney with a sexual joke, brags about being “Marvel Jesus”, and constantly makes fun of his situation; all while breaking the fourth wall in that classic Deadpool-fashion fans grew to love.

The character arrives at the MCU after agents of the Time Variance Agency (TVA) drag him back to the headquarters, he suddenly finds himself in the same universe as The Avengers; now it is up to him to save said universe, to be “a hero among heroes”.

And in a certain sense, it is all true. This film will probably decide the future of the whole MCU. Everything is at stake, with movies being a critic and box-office failures left and right, Marvel has one opportunity to deliver a movie with a truly compelling, self-standing story and stop treating their productions as mere “teasers” for what may come next.

That said, the movie has a lot going for it. Ryan Reynolds is both a producer and writer for the movie, which only means it will have a touch of his love for his character. Additionally, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be a major character in the story, continuing with the playful banter Reynolds and Jackman had over the years about working together with their respective characters.

Here is to all the hype this movie carries, and hoping it makes the so-needed impact the MCU needs to be reborn.
