Best Horror Movies Available On Prime Video

I was genuinely impressed with the diversity of titles available on Amazon Prime Video. They have a pretty good balance of new horror and classics but what I was most impressed with was the number of B horror films that are practically impossible to find anywhere else.

I highly recommend taking some to check out their horror catalog. Here are my picks for the top 10 horror films on Amazon Prime Video that you should add to your spooky season watchlist! I also recommend checking out their upcoming horror film Totally Killer which will hit the streaming service on October 6.

10. When a Stranger Calls (2006)

There are so many films with the same title that all follow the same story, but this is one of my favorites! A young babysitter arrives at a luxurious home to babysit two young children. After putting them to sleep she settles in to relax while she waits for the parents to get home. Then the phone starts ringing and the person on the other end quickly turns her night into pure terror.

9. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)

I grew up watching the Abbott and Costello monster movies, but I know most people didn’t so I would highly recommend starting with this one! The film follows the comedy duo as they play railway baggage handlers in Florida. After one of them mishandles a crate from a house of horrors museum the museum’s director demands that the men deliver the package themselves so that it can be inspected for insurance purposes. Little do they know that there are real horrors that await them!

8. Nope (2022)

Jordan Peele is truly a genius in horror and easily fits amongst the greats like John Carpenter and Wes Craven. His 2022 film’s plot was kept mostly under wraps and has somehow still avoided being spoiled by social media.

The film follows a brother and sister who discover something sinister in the sky above their horse ranch. In classic horror fashion, a theme park attempts to profit off of this and things go very wrong.

7. Saw Franchise (2004-2017)

I was really impressed to see that Amazon Prime had movies 1-6 and 8 available to stream for free with your membership. The films follow a dying mastermind who takes people he feels are bad and puts them into horrific traps that they must work as a team to escape. The franchise gets a pretty bad rap due to the level of gore, but if you can make it through the gore the films actually have a pretty solid story! It’s difficult to talk about them without spoilers since the early films all build on each other. I am excited to see the next film in the franchise when it is released later this year!

6. Dracula (1931)

The film follows the titular character as he makes his way to London to live in a castle and feast on the blood of young women. As he sets his sights on his next victim, he gains the attention of monster hunter Van Helsing who is determined to kill him before he can claim another victim. Bela Lugosi’s Count Dracula will forever be one of the best!

5. M3GAN (2022)

I feel like everyone has heard of this film by now as it took social media by storm last year. The film follows a young girl who is gifted a lifelike doll named Megan that her aunt created. The doll is programmed to be the young girl’s protector and best friend. Unfortunately, things take a horrifying turn and lead to kills that would even impress the OG killer doll, Chucky.

4. The Black Phone (2021)

This is easily the most unique and fascinating film on this list. The film follows a 13-year-old boy who is bullied at school and at home. Other young boys in his neighborhood have been disappearing and when he finds himself in the basement of a deranged serial killer he thinks all hope is lost.

That is until a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring and he finds that he can speak with the killer’s previous victims, and they are determined to help him escape. The most fascinating thing about this film is that not only are following the young boy’s journey working with the spirits of the victims, but his younger sister is having dreams/visions of what is happening and she is trying to help the police find her brother before he is killed.

3. Evil Dead (2013)

This is one of the few horror remakes/reboots that I genuinely think is better than the original. The film follows a group of friends who rent a cabin in the woods to help their friend who is currently on the road to recovery and going through serious withdrawal symptoms. One of the friends discovers a mysterious book and decides to not only open it but read aloud from it. Horror ensues and there is action until the credits start to roll.

2. House on Haunted Hill (1959)

This is one of my favorite classic horror films! Its cast is led by the legendary Vincent Price who plays a mysterious and wealthy man who invites a group of strangers to come and stay in his haunted home. If they make it through the night then they each receive $10,000. Unfortunately, there is murder and madness waiting for them around every corner. There was a terrible remake made in 1999 which I am pretty sure most people think of when they see the title of the film, but I highly recommend checking out the original!

1. Constantine (2005)

This is a film that I feel flew under the radar for a lot of people which is such a shame because it’s one of Keanu Reeves’ best. I can’t wait for the sequel to come out! The film is based on the DC/Vertigo Hellblazer comics and focuses on a demon hunter who has died and been to hell and back to the world of living. He knows that unless he can earn enough goodwill to get him into heaven then he will return to hell upon his death. When he partners with a female detective who is investigating her identical twin’s supposed suicide he finds himself in a plot involving both heaven and hell.
