A New Trailer And Interview Reveal Plenty About 'Avatar: Seven Havens'

Avatar: Seven Havens has been generating a lot of discussion in the months approaching its release, and a teaser trailer at San Diego Comic Con during the summer helped to hype the project. But in a one-two punch, an interview conducted by Polygon with show creator Michael Dante DiMartino and executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi, and then the release of a new official trailer for the show, has revealed substantial information and given fans more clues about events in the series.
The biggest reveal from the Polygon interview is that Seven Havens is set a stunned 225 years after The Legend of Korra, a considerable time jump. On one hand, this jump helps affirm the far more futuristic technology of Seven Havens, and allows the universe to have changed in substantial ways unseen across past adventures in the series. However, it also creates considerable distance from familiar elements of the franchise, and it also appears that a lot of knowledge has been distorted in those 225 years.
Avatar: Seven Havens’ trailer underlines this fact by showing us a world drastically changed by events somehow connected to Korra’s life many years in the past. There is a question on how old Korra was when the events evasively depicted and mentioned took place, likely shortening that 225 year period, because some Avatars have been shown to have lived incredibly long lives. Regardless, the people of the Havens now live in fear and hatred of the Avatar.
The Havens themselves are detailed further in the Polygon article, while the trailer also shows off the main location for the series. Ellora, a vast metropolis of over a million inhabitants, is located in a defensive series of slot canyons in an arid landscape. It represents a society bent on survival over everything, but also a society twisted into Avatar-hatred by the story that the chaos unleashed across the world is the Avatar’s fault.

The trailer gives evidence for this viewpoint in a mural showing Korra seemingly as the destroyer of Republic City, and a brief flashback to that event shows a huge explosion seemingly associated with her. The White Lotus has also seemingly been thrown under the bus of history, as one character incorrectly (then again 225 years changes a lot) says they are a “freaky underground cult that worships the Avatar”. However, a new spiritual threat is emerging in this Avatar-hating world that only the Avatar can likely face.
Some kind of huge pulsing tilted square, roiling with red energy, appears in the trailer as a major threat, and is seemingly connected to the Spirit World. Facing down multiple opponents across different scenes, other footage makes it clear that there is considerable imbalance in this era of the Avatar universe, possibly feeding this aggressive entity. Whether this strange geometric Spirit has any ties with the Spirits Vaatu or Raava (its design has some visual similarity to the chaos and darkness Spirit Vaatu), remains to be seen.
There is plenty more information emerging; the fan discussion is fierce, and we won’t have long to wait for some major answers. Avatar: Seven Havens will drop its 12 episodes in 3-episode batches starting October 9th, 2026.
