It is no secret that The Lord of The Rings: Gollum game did not meet fan expectations upon its release in May 2023. The concept for the game was to offer a different point of view along the timeline between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Reports arrived shortly after the game’s debut, indicating that while admirable in theory, the game missed the mark, citing issues such as bugs, unsolvable pieces, game malfunctions, and visual distortion, to name a few. PCGamesN rated it as a 3/10, noting that the game was “downright disappointing.” PCGamesN further described the gaming experience as “lacking [the] Tolkien flair the Middle-earth series need[ed]” and that the game was further “bogged down by shallow, [and] repetitive gameplay.”

At the time, headlines quickly announced that Daedalic publicly apologized for the vast consumer dissatisfaction with the game. However, a new report has emerged alleging that the apology was written with ChatGPT. The information from Game Two states that Daedalic may not have even been the responsible party for issuing the apology as was initially disclosed. The publisher, Nacon, may have been the one to have released it. Anonymous sources further suggest that the apology was not edited or revised before publication, as it refers to the game as The Lord of Ring: Gollum.
