DC’s Floral Femme Fatale, Poison Ivy, a well-known Batman antagonist, has a live-action series in the works, and Lauren LeFranc, showrunner for The Penguin, is in talks to produce it. Discussions about the project have been ongoing for some time but paused due to the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. Sources report that, at this time, LeFranc would serve only as a producer and is not expected to write for the series. Additionally, if Poison Ivy were to be picked up, it would air on HBO and would not be part of the Robert Pattinson-led Batman universe.
Carmine Infantino, Robert Kanigher, and Sheldon Moldoff originally created Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, aka Poison Ivy. She first appeared in Batman #181 in June 1966. The botanist-turned-villain can use her pheromones to control people and the flora around her, making her a formidable opponent. Poison Ivy has appeared in an animated form in the HBO Max series Harley Quinn, where Lake Bell voiced her. She has also appeared sporadically in live-action contexts, including when Bridget Regan played the iconic character on the CW’s Batwoman. Additionally, Peyton List played her in Fox’s Gotham. Other notable actresses who have embodied this character on screen include Uma Thurman, Clare Foley, and Maggie Geha. As of the time of this writing, no one has been cast for the titular lead role.
LeFranc is no newcomer when it comes to bringing superheroes and their villains to life for fans on the small screen. In addition to her work on The Penguin, she has written and produced a plethora of episodes for ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and YouTube Premium series, Impulse. She has also written for NBC’s Chuck and My Own Worst Enemy.
