The much anticipated third season of The Mandalorian is set to air on Disney+ in February 2023 and fans cannot wait to see Mando and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) together again! It is rumored that while shooting ended back in late March of this year that the show has some additional filming needs. Katee Sackhoff, the actress who plays Bo-Katan Kryze hinted in an Instagram video that she missed the Fan Expo in Denver due to a filming conflict. While she did not identify the show specifically by name, she promised fans that they would like what they were working on and that she would see them at next year’s expo in Denver. She teased that she was “working on a little show that we all know and love,” signing off by saying “This is the way.”

The Bespin Bulletin offers reassurance for fans to know that they have nothing to worry about regarding the callback for filming as many platforms and content creators may attempt to spin the information to make fans nervous, Bespin asserts that “this is all planned additional photography and are certainly nothing to worry about.” The possibility of Katee Sackhoff returning for additional filming suggests that Bo-Katan will have a larger role to play in Season 3.

Given her history dating back as far as The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels with her desire for the dark saber and interest in restoring and ruling Mandalore, Sackhoff’s return for additional filming presents an opportunity for canon-level conflict with exciting possible resolutions. Additionally, The Bespin Bulletin reports that Giancarlo Esposito is likely to reprise his role as Moff Gideon in Season 3 as well as offering another opportunity for fans to enjoy a favorite villain of the franchise. Moff Gideon’s return begs the question of when fans could expect a battle to take place as Moff will surely be wanting the Darksaber back. We know that Mando has not yet learned how to wield the saber, but we do know that Bo-Katan can, presenting several possible scenarios that can indicate a mixed relationship with Mando. On one hand, there could be a continued alliance at least for a time as they deal with other obstacles, such as Moff Gideon. While on the other hand at some point she and Mando may have to engage in combat for ownership of the Darksaber.

Mando earned the Darksaber when he defeated Moff Gideon in combat in the season 2 finale. He tried to give it to Bo-Katan, however, she declined at the time knowing that the only legitimate way she can take it back and assume her title over Mandalore is to earn it in combat. At the time Mando had no real interest in ruling Mandalore, that fact combined with his unwavering loyalty and honor code it would come as no surprise that he would be willing to gift the Darksaber without much if any question. The situation for Mando changes however in The Book of Bobo Fett when Paz Vizsla challenges him to a duel. Mando accepts and then wins. Subsequently, The Armorer asks if anyone has seen him without his helmet. He answers truthfully and is told he is no longer a Mandalorian.

Mando leaves armed with the Darksaber and new motivation for learning how to wield it. He is determined to restore his honor and status as a Mandalorian. Therein lies the potential conflict with Bo-Katan, offering much excitement as Katee Sackhoff hints that fans would indeed like what they have been working on as additional filming indicates additional screen time for a much-loved and interesting character in this upcoming season.
