Now that the Obi-Wan Kenobi show has come to a close, details of the early ideas for its story have come to surface. With original writer Stuart Beattie revealing his ideas for the script in various interviews since the show's finale.

One of the first bits of information he revealed was his idea to create a trilogy of films instead of a limited series on Disney+. Each movie shows an evolution of the character ending with the acceptance of his fate by giving himself to the force in A New Hope. Some other tidbits of his version of the product included a cameo from clone trooper Cody, an old friend of Kenobi during the Clone Wars as well as originally killing Reva off at the end of the show.

While bits and pieces of his plan for the trilogy have been revealed, one specific piece sounds extremely interesting and has the potential to be extremely cool.

A section of his story introduces a much different Luke Skywalker than we got in the Disney+ series. Instead of just seeing the young boy at the Lars farm on Tatooine, according to an interview conducted by The Direct we would have seen an older, Mark Hamill Luke. In the interview, Stuart explains that his story introduces a group of force worshippers, and along his journey, Obi-Wan stumbles across this group. When they take Obi-Wan to their shrine he gets a vision through the force where he revisits a planet he’s been to before.

As his vision places him on Mustafar, across from him stands a black-robed opponent like his duel with Anakin Skywalker, except this time it’s not Anakin. Instead of his old friend turning to the dark side, he faces off against his son, the person Kenobi is set to protect. According to Beattie, the duel would mirror the vision Luke has within the cave on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back where he sees himself under the helmet of Darth Vader.

While this not only mirrors Luke seeing himself as a Sith Lord while he trains to become a Jedi, it also teaches Obi-Wan a lesson further explaining his sacrifice later on in life. Before realizing that this isn’t a memory and instead it is a vision of the future he re-lives the feeling of failure that has left him traumatized sparking his fear of leading Luke down the same dark path his father took. Beattie said this in the interview with The Direct:

“but it’s a vision of the future if Obi-Wan keeps training Luke and putting all his guilt on this kid, Luke’s gonna turn to the Dark Side. "So… it’s one of those moments that makes Obi-Wan realize, ’I’ve got to let this go, because this is the future I’m headed on right now.”

This is an interesting moment to explore for Obi-Wan, as it could have led him to his sacrifice in the duel with Darth Vader in A New Hope. As Beattie states his vision leaves Obi-Wan with an idea of what could happen taking Luke as his apprentice for the long term. Watching Kenobi wrestling with himself about Luke’s future would be really intriguing to see on the big screen and make for quite the character moment.

All that said, with talks for a season two of Kenobi ramping up, could this be something we see in another season? It is possible considering that in both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian we have seen a de-aged Mark Hamill return as the fan-favorite, Master Jedi Luke Skywalker make an appearance. It would make for an amazing scene if they decided to do it, and it not only could be an emotional scene but its meaning to the canon and Obi-Wan’s decision could be significant.
