Ahsoka's Story Gets Deeper With 'Tales Of The Jedi'

Tales of The Jedi was just released, and boy, does it ever have some goodies. The six-episode story has two storylines: a three-episode arc (episodes 2,3 and 4) about Count Dooku, highlighting his views and how they lead him to become a Sith Lord. The other, however (episodes 1,5 and 6), is about Anakin’s apprentice, Ahsoka Tano. Here, Ahsoka, who made her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian, and is scheduled to soon get her own live-action show, returns to her roots in an animated show created by Dave Filoni. Given that Ahsoka’s page is the fifth most viewed on Wookieepedia, the attention the character has received recently is well-warranted, and this show is an excellent chance for fans not as familiar with her to get to know her.

The first episode of Ahsoka’s arc is focused on her as a child. Here, a one-year-old Ahsoka is carried by her mother on her first hunting trip (a Togruta tradition) and is kidnapped by a sabertooth. When at the beast’s mercy, she is able to use the Force to calm it down and have it return her to her family. Gantika, an elder Togruta, knows this means she is a Jedi. This is the earliest known instance of Ahsoka using the Force, even though she likely was following her instincts.

The second episode begins with her training in front of many other Jedi, including Anakin. Her skill impresses many Jedi present, including Obi-Wan and Kanan Jarrus (then Kaleb Dume), but Anakin is unimpressed and wants to give her a ‘real’ test instead. In this test, she must deflect live blaster blots (set to stun) fired by clone troopers, including Captain Rex. Anakin justifies this by saying he wanted it to be tougher and less predictable, and the ending of the episode shows that this training allowed Ahsoka to survive Order 66.

The final episode opens with Ahsoka at Padme’s funeral and connects her with Bail Organa. Ahsoka then saves a village from an Inquisitor and has Bail rescue the villagers and give them a new life, which gets her back into the fight, possibly leading her to become the first fulcrum agent, as she was in Rebels.

It’s implied that these were incidents that defined Ahsoka’s life. The first shows that she had potential from a young age and a strong instinctive use of the Force. The second shows that she was a very unorthodox Jedi, much like her series counterpart Dooku, because of the eccentric training she received from Anakin. Finally, the third reminded her of what she really believes in, her dedication to those around her, and showed how brutal the Empire is to its subjects.
