A strategy that is growing ever-more popular with major studios is a rerelease of their films with the promise of some new feature, experience, or added weight of time. Certainly, there have always been celebrations of big anniversaries, but recent years have seen re-releases which appear designed to heavily support a company’s bottom line fight over any creative elements, and Spider-Man is apparently about to join the club.

Already the most financially successful film of all time at the domestic American box office with almost 2.5 billion dollars as of writing this, the forces behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day are apparently conspiring to release a brand new cut of the film with extra footage. This appears to be a very similar situation to Backrooms from earlier this year, where new footage was added to a new cut of the film, letting it stay in theatres longer where it continued to earn money, and is similar to the rerelease of Avengers: Endgame with new material connected to Doomsday. Such a move is almost sure to tip the massive success story for both Sony and Disney over that 2.5 billion number it is fast approaching, and continue to support its dominance at the domestic box office.

Supposedly, some of the new footage would feature Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, a character who has been reintegrated with the MCU from the Netflix Marvel shows, though hasn’t appeared in any notable capacity to date. Dawson previously spoke about filming a scene for the film that ended up cut, though this would not be the only element of the potential new footage.

All of this is through reporting from Deadline, so we’ll have to wait and see if the rerelease happens, and what is included in the potentially new cut.
