A YouTuber by the name of Dan Allen accidentally revealed he was the man behind the infamous The Real Insider Twitter account, which had leaked much of the content from the latest Ubisoft Forward event. Dan Allen is an Australian gaming YouTuber, who created a range of content relating to games, interviews, guides, and more. Since 2014 he had been building up his channel to its current 189k subscribers. Such numbers had given him access to insider information, with companies trusting him with yet-to-be-revealed news to allow him to get that information out quickly upon official release.

The Real Insider Twitter account had been set up by Dan, allowing him to reveal that information before its time. The anonymity behind it allowed him an extra source of internet fame (even if the viewing public wouldn’t know it was him) without being accused of breaking the non-disclosure agreements he was under. All that is up, though. In an error of judgement, he had replied to a comment on The Real Insider regarding his leaks from his main Dan Allen account. Though he quickly realised his mistake and tried to hide the evidence, others were quicker in screenshotting the offending tweet and incriminating him.

Since then, both The Real Insider and his main Twitter accounts have been deleted by him, having admitted that he had been The Real Insider via a YouTube video. Within it, he says he is disappointed in himself for his behaviour and that he would be taking time away to reflect on his poor decisions.

Apologise he might, but the legality of his actions is still to be determined. Though he might have been doing it through an alternate account, Dan was still breaking the NDAs that he had signed to gain access to the information he had been leaking. It’s unknown what the consequences will be, but he has now opened himself up to financial loss and being blacklisted across the industry.
