This week marked the 29th edition of the annual DICE Awards, short for Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain, one of the most respected honors in the video game industry. The ceremony took place during the DICE Summit in Las Vegas and concluded the conference, with awards presented by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. Unlike many other industry shows, the DICE Awards are decided by developers and professionals rather than fans or media outlets. This year, more than 30,000 industry members participated in the voting process, evaluating games, teams, and individuals based on technical achievement, design innovation, and artistic impact. The focus remains on celebrating games that made a significant impact in 2025, emphasizing technical skill, design, and storytelling rather than commercial success or popularity.
The awards featured 23 categories, with over 65 games nominated across the board. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 led the night with nominations in eight categories and five wins, including Outstanding Art Direction, Outstanding Story, Role Playing Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, and Game of the Year. Notably, the Indie Game Awards recently stripped GOTY from Clair due to minimal use of AI in production. Ghost of Yōtei also earned eight nominations and walked away with three awards, including Outstanding Character, Outstanding Original Music Composition, and Adventure Game of the Year. Arc Raiders and Blue Prince each received six nominations, with Blue Prince securing two wins and Arc Raiders taking home Online Game of the Year. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach picked up multiple nominations and at least one win, while Dispatch ended the night without an award despite strong recognition. Other notable nominees included Hades II and Mario Kart World, both of which managed to secure a single victory.
