'Harry Potter', 'Braveheart', And 'Indiana Jones' Actor Michael Byrne Has Died At 82
Michael Byrne, who played an older Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, has passed away at the age of 82. No cause of death has been revealed at this point. Bryne also portrayed Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Symthe in Braveheart. He was born in Hamstead, North London, on November 7, 1943, to Helen Byrne, a single mother. Bryne had an extensive career stretching through TV, movies, and the stage.
His TV work started in the 60’s with roles in No Hiding Place, Silent Playground, and ITV Saturday Night Theater. Around the same time, he found himself performing on stage under the direction of Laurence Olivier with roles in Romeo and Juliet, The Cherry Orchard, Much Ado About Nothing, Death and the Maiden at the Royal Court, The Double Dealer, and The Seagull. Bryne’s first film role was in the 1963 feature The Scarlet Blade. Over the next decade, he found his stride in World War II films like The Eagle Has Landed, A Bridge Too Far, and Force 10 From Navarone. Through his seven-decade career, Bryne has appeared in more than 170 projects. He is survived by his ex-wife Carole Nimmons, who offered her care and support at the end of his life, his daughters Tanya and Bryony, and his grandchildren Tom, Chloe, and Jasmine.
