The first official trailer for the highly anticipated HBO Harry Potter series dropped yesterday, along with its release date. The trailer confirms that the first season's title is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and that the first episode will air on Max on December 25, 2026. A happy Christmas gift from HBO indeed. J.K. Rowling’s seven-novel series is being adapted into ten seasons that promise to explore the print stories more deeply than its cinematic predecessors. With this first season sharing its title with the original UK releases, each subsequent season will likely follow suit.
The series is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod, with the score composed by none other than Academy Award-winner, Hans Zimmer. The teaser introduces viewers to the cast, including the “golden trio” of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adults in Harry’s life are also briefly introduced, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Additionally, we get a sneak peek of Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy and Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby playing Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively.
