Over the weekend a new teaser trailer was released for the upcoming HBO series The Idol. The trailer debuted on Saturday night at a concert for The Weekend in Las Vegas. The trailer showed brief footage of several individuals including Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Lily-Rose Depp, and Suzanna Son. While there is no confirmed premiere date for the show the trailer teaser indicated that the show is coming soon. According to Variety, the series is about “a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.”

Over the past several months the show has seen some substantial changes. Previously changes in the creative direction of the show led director Amy Siemetz to leave the show. HBO said in a statement to Variety in April: “The production will be adjusting its case and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon.”

With the recent announcement that HBO Max will be merging with Discovery Plus soon, shows being released on both platforms are being put even more under the microscope. For example, the premiere of House of the Dragon drew large ratings this past Sunday.
