Square Enix is bringing two new cafes to Los Angeles, California, and Shinjuku, Japan. The company has experimented with pop-up cafes in the past, but these new locations will be permanent. This also marks the first time any Square Enix cafe has opened in the United States. According to the official press release, “The cafe spaces will offer menu items inspired by multiple Square Enix IPs, while the adjoining spaces will carry a wide selection of official merchandise.” Square Enix is best known for the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series, but their other properties include Life Is Strange, The World Ends With You, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, and the upcoming The Adventures of Elliott: The Millennium Tales. No other details have been announced about the cafe but several of their games include cooking meals to buff stats, and ramen plays a pretty big role in The World Ends With You.
J-Pop Cafe will operate the Los Angeles cafe situated in the Little Tokyo neighborhood at 316 E. 1st Street in what was formerly the Mitsuru Sushi & Grill Space. Meanwhile, the Shinjuku cafe will be at Paselabo Tower and run by the Newton Corporation. Square Enix also has a separate Artnia cafe in Shinjuku that will remain in operation. Pop-ups are currently active in Osaka and Nagoya along with an official cafe in Shanghai.
