Today, fans were treated to the teaser trailer for Marvel Studios' upcoming film The Marvels. The 33rd film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees the return of Brie Larson suited up as Captain Marvel, aka. Carol Danvers, alongside two relative newcomers to the universe. Teyonah Parris returns as Monica Rambeau, last seen at the end of WandaVision, who has been invited by a Skrull to meet with Nick Fury in a space station hovering about the earth. Iman Vallani also reprises her role as Kamala Khan from Ms. Marvel, who was last seen transported somewhere.

The trailer opens with Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) on the S.A.B.E.R. Space Station asking Rambeau what she is doing as the camera pans to Rambeau outside the space station in a spacesuit approaching a blue energy source. The communication link between Fury and Rambeau begins to distort, and Rambeau touches the mysterious blue energy sending her flying backward toward the space station. However, the suited figure flung back to the space station isn’t Rambeau, but Kamala Khan. After her initial panic, Khan recognizes Fury immediately and asks, “Is this an Avengers test?”

Brie Larson recently spoke with Good Morning America about the film and the complex character of Carol Danvers:

“The first one was the origin story of who she is. Now it’s digging into some of the complexities. That there is much more to her than that, that there are parts that are not so great about her. That we can see a hero as being a person that doesn’t make every right decision all the time.”

The Marvels debuts in theaters on November 10, 2023.
