Marvel Will Explore Yoda's Long History
Master Yoda! The wisest and most powerful of the Jedi in the time of its glory. For nine hundred years, he has trained Jedi. The strange little alien has lived quite a life acquiring so much wisdom and experience. Yoda will be getting a comic soon detailing some of the events of his life. This comic will have several writers involved in it.
Jody Houser will write the prequel era near the end of the Clone Wars, Marc Guggenheim will write a story set in the prequel era before the Clone Wars, and of course, Cavan Scott himself writing a story of Yoda set during The High Republic. With artist Nick Leon, Luke Ross, Alessandro Miracolo, and Phil Noto, the cover artist for Issue #1. Star Wars: Yoda is a 10-issue series coming to spinner racks in October 2022.
The story’s basic premise is that in self-imposed exile on Dagobah, Yoda begins to reflect on the many adventures he had throughout his life. Three creative teams and three eras are what it takes to tell Yoda’s long life stories. He has seen the Jedi at their highest and lowest. He led the Jedi for most of his time in the Order. With issue #1 by Cavan Scott set during The High Republic, it will be fascinating to see Master Yoda and the Jedi in their prime. Perhaps we will see Yoda and his group of younglings he goes on adventures with, which was one of the concepts that The High Republic introduced during the publishing initiative. The idea does make sense, given that even by the prequels, Yoda was still training younglings. However, during The High Republic, they weren’t as secluded in the temple.

Cavan Scott is also a prolific writer in his own right. Again working on The High Republic, he’s done quite a lot in the world of Star Wars comics in general. This is very much in his wheelhouse with such works as The Rising Storm under his belt, Star Wars Adventures comics, and the main High Republic comic series. Though, as he has pointed out, one of his biggest stories was Dooku: Jedi Lost, which, while not Yoda-centric, deals with one of Yoda’s own padawans Count Dooku. Perhaps one of the stories will deal with Yoda training the young Count, as we begin to see seeds as to why Dooku might fall to the Dark Side and the whims of Darth Sidious. Perhaps hints and what is to come for his particular issue of the Yoda series.
Of course, the life of Yoda isn’t just High Republic-centric. When someone lives for nine hundred years, you’re bound to see a lot of adventures. The prequel era, while fleshed out, still has much to give in terms of Yoda’s story, seeing him navigate a period when the Republic is on the brink of collapse and the Jedi Order is in decline. Seeing Yoda grapple with the Clone Wars and its uncertainty, navigating being both a master of Jedi and now the uncertain politics. Perhaps we can even see a story near the end of the Clone Wars of him continuing to navigate through the netherworld of the force and learn how to be a Force ghost which is another aspect of Yoda that is still a shrouded mystery.
Grand Master Yoda is one of the most exciting Jedi in the history of the Star Wars galaxy. For nine hundred years, he trained Jedi; he saw them rise, fall, and in some ways, their redemption through Luke and eventually Rey. His is a life of adventure, wisdom, and tragedy, perhaps one comic can’t ultimately tell the life of a great master like him, but it can begin to shed life on him. Maybe more will come with it as the Star Wars galaxy starts to expand.
