If there’s one thing that the Star Wars universe has consistently been into, it’s creating backstories for its characters. An entire trilogy, the prequels, is dedicated to explaining the backstory of many of the characters in the original trilogy. One of the characters that was introduced in these prequels was Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Although Windu was a popular character who made an impact, his character's backstory has been sparse. He was on the Jedi council, didn’t like Anakin, was very powerful, defeated Jango Fett, and died in his attempt to defeat Darth Sidious. His backstory however wasn’t really hinted at other than a few individual comic books. A viewer can infer he’s been close with Yoda for a while, as the two are shown working alongside each other and trusting each other a lot, but his specifics aren’t explored very much.

However, with the release of an upcoming comic series, fans will have the opportunity to learn about what happened to the purple saber-wielding master. The upcoming comic series has been written by Marv Bernardin, with illustrations by Georges Jeanty, and Mateus Manhanni is the cover artist. Mace Windu #1 will be released on February 7th and is currently available for pre-order in select locations.
