Meet Cassian Andor's New Best Friend, B2EMO, The "Costar" Of 'Andor'

The release of the first season “Andor” introduces viewers to new characters and droids. One of the droids may are looking forward to is B2EMO. According to Entertainment Weekly, series creator Tony Gilroy wanted the Andor family to have a loyal companion, an ancient salvage droid who's been working with them for an extended amount of time. This resulted in the cubical B2, a rusty red ground mech rolling around the planet Ferrix. A combination of a salvage droid and a family dog resulted in Cassian’s newest companion, B2EMO.

Though playing opposite to Diego Luna’s Cassian, Luna mentions his excitement in playing alongside a droid. According to Luna, B2 is the “perfect droid” designed well and controlled via a remote to make the droid as expressive as possible. Thus, the B2 droid could provide a great deal of banter with its co-stars and work off of them. With so little, so much can be taken and given to the rest of the cast.

Made by hand by the Star Wars designer Neal Scanlan, the choice from the droid design to B2’s color was created in tandem with its ability to blend in with the cast. Given the droid's apparent numerous abilities granted to him by Neal Scanlan, he will likely play a large role in the overall story. With B2, it is an actual piece of metal moving. However, it is a metal that is as expressive as any actor and as precise. With Cassian being without Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO, the space for a companion was needed. According to Collider, B2’s initial design sets it apart from previous droids as does the part it will play in the series.

It’s unknown what role B2EMO will play. Whether the droid will be a friend or a foe to Luna’s Andor, the droid is fast becoming a fan favorite and a friend of sorts amongst the cast. Since the plot details behind Andor and B2's exact role are shrouded in secrecy, B2’s presence will most likely coincide with the events leading up to Rogue One. With five years between the Andor and Rogue One timeline, B2 has plenty of time to cement his place within the lore of Star Wars.
