Spider-Man fans may still be crying upside down in the rain after the cancellation of Spider-Noir, but it turns out that Amazon isn’t done with the superhero just yet. Amazon MGM Studios is preparing to launch a new series based on the Clone Saga by Marvel Comics, an extended arc involving Spider-Man clones Ben Reilly, Kaine Parker, and original love interest Gwen Stacey. This plot also opens the possibility for The Jackal (aka Miles Warren to make a comeback in the MCU, as this villain hasn’t been on screen since the 2017 animated Disney Spider-Man series, where he was voiced by John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama).

The new series will be written by Kelvin Yu, who is best known for Bob’s Burgers and aims to follow the alternative versions of Peter Parker, right where Spider-Noir left off, despite the savage cut. The project isn’t officially greenlit yet, as the complex copyright issues around the characters are still being worked out, but its understood that Sony higher-ups, Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, and Phil Lord will be down as executive producers as a sweetener.

Amazon shelled out a lot of cash on Spider-Noir, and it was ultimately chopped after one season, despite having Nicolas Cage in the title role. Let’s see if Amazon can find a hit in their second time out with the webslinger. Or maybe they just need to give the new series a little more time?
