Sabrina Carpenter And Margaret Qualley To Star In 'Fred Astaire' Biopic With Tom Holland

Seems like Tom Holland wants the house tour! It’s been confirmed that Grammy-winning musician Sabrina Carpenter and Emmy-nominated actress Margaret Qualley will join Tom Holland in his upcoming Fred Astaire biopic! Deadline was the first to report on it.

One of the most accomplished and beloved stars of his day, Fred Astaire was a dancer, actor, singer, musician, choreographer, and presenter, whose career in stage, film, and television spanned nearly 80 years. He is widely considered to be the greatest popular-music dancer of all time. After finding success on stage and screen, Fred Astaire partnered with fellow dancer and actress Ginger Rogers and made 9 films together. For decades, Astaire and Rogers have been hailed as one of the greatest duos in film history. Astaire received an Honorary Academy Award in 1950 and earned a competitive nomination for Best Supporting Actor for The Towering Inferno, though lost to Robert De Niro for The Godfather Part II. A Fred Astaire biopic was officially announced to be in the works when Tom Holland was confirmed to play the icon 5 years ago. Combined with his past stage experience and his now decade long stint as the MCU Spider-Man, Holland seems tailor made to play Astaire on the big screen. Paul King (best known for directing the first two Paddington films) will direct the film, his first since 2023’s Wonka. King will also write the screenplay alongside Steven Levenson, based on the book The Astaires: Fred & Adele by Kathleen Riley. Riley will serve as a story consultant. Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor (who recently produced Spider-Man: Brand New Day) will also produce this film. A filming start date and a release date are unknown at this time.
