Scorsese And 'Star Wars'? Disney Confirms Cameo By Legendary Directory

Films do all sorts of things to sell tickets. Films also have all sorts of odd cameos, perhaps from friends of the filmmakers or behind-the-scenes talent. But The Mandalorian and Grogu did one of the oddest possible things to accomplish both: it cast Martin Scorsese as a four-armed alien food stall owner.
Yes, you heard us right, in a film already noted for the casting of Jeremy Allen White as the voice of Rotta the Hutt, another surprising name has entered the ring of VAs bringing an alien character to life. As revealed in today’s new trailer for the film, Scorsese’s character appears to be an Ardennian, the same species as Rio Durant from Solo: A Star Wars Story, who was VAd by Jon Favreau, director of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
If we had to guess, it is through Favreau that this cameo voice role came to be, as the two creatives are friendly with each other both on and off the camera. It may be an attempt to get some niche audiences who wouldn’t ordinarily see a Star Wars film to pay attention to the project, but it may also be a more calculated effort to affirm that Scorsese is not the film snob some have come to view him as after comments he made in 2019 regarding the MCU.
His social media presence and recent transformation into a widely used meme show that he’s on a path to completely erase the impact of those comments on his online reputation, and showing up in this pulpy action film should certainly help put an end to the perceptions around him being a stuffy, out-of-touch older man.
The Mandalorian and Grogu opens to the world on May 22nd, 2025.
