Sony To Continue Focusing On PS5 Exclusive Titles While Staggering PC Conversions

The sheer lack of PC conversions for the many PlayStation exclusives has frustrated PC consumers. The CEO of PlayStation responded by doubling their efforts to ensure lengthy PC ports. PC players wait three years for PlayStation to port games like Horizon Zero Dawn. The Last of Us Remake was recently released on PC after being available on PS5 for a long time. Unfortunately, it came with a lot of problems. Users experienced issues such as inefficient use of hardware, jerky camera movements, absence of setting toggles, high VRAM consumption on PC, frame drops, and poor optimization. Porting games from PlayStation to PC is a challenging task. Yet, choosing not to do so can boost the sales of PlayStation consoles and exclusives.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan told IGN Japan, "We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios' main responsibility is to make games for the latest PlayStation hardware that players will enjoy. We are increasing the number of PS5 exclusive games, and staggering the release of the PC versions,”

Jim Ryan continued, "I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them how they feel about the time lag, they often say they feel the release of a PC version two or three years after the release of the PlayStation version is acceptable."

Xbox head Phil Spencer expressed his disappointment with the PlayStation's PC release schedule. He finds it unacceptable that PC ports of PlayStation exclusives are only released three years after the initial launch. Many gamers believe that it's unfair for gamers to pay such a high price for PlayStation exclusives. Players who wish to later play a PlayStation exclusive on their PC but already own the game have it rough. These players will have to pay full price again for the PC version. This leads Phil Spencer to prize Xbox as the only platform that releases games on console and PC. Going forward, PlayStation exclusives will have longer releases for PC than Xbox exclusives.
