As the world increasingly relies on digital technology, Star Wars Insider, an official magazine to accompany the franchise, announced its closure. The final issue will be #237. Star Wars Insider can trace its roots back to 1978 with the Star Wars Fan Club newsletter, later renamed to Bantha Tracks by a contest winner. Bantha Tracks came to a close with issue #35, which focused on the Star Tours ride at the Disney theme parks. Later that year, the newsletter was replaced with the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine ten years after A New Hope was released. After another seven years, the magazine was transformed into Star Wars Insider in 1994. While the logo has been updated, and writers and editors have come and gone, it still retains its identity today.
One editor, Christopher Cooper, reflected on his time with the publication. He said, “Insider has been part of my Star Wars experience for a very long time, both as a fan and professionally. It’s been an honor to explore the galaxy far, far, away with our readers during my eight-year tenure.” Senior Editor Brett Rector added his own thoughts, “I certainly share Christopher’s [Cooper] sentiments. Having served as editor-in-chief of Insider during the lead-up to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in 2004 and 2005, and then to edit the magazine for the past 9 years for Lucasfilm Publishing, has been the greatest privilege of my life. To say the magazine occupies a huge place in my heart is an understatement. The next edition of the magazine #235 will be released on December 9, 2025, and will be a celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Force Awakens. The final two issues will be released in early 2026, with back issues still being sold while available. Cooper gave a fitting send-off to the magazine: “As we fly off into the twin sunsets, Titan intends to go out in a blaze of glory.”
