Street Fighter 6 was recently released this past weekend, and it has already amassed over one million players. The title got off to a pretty good start when it became the most-played fighting game on Steam by concurrent players, beating out the likes of Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, and its predecessor, Street Fighter 5. It also sold over 50 million copies at launch, and Capcom honored this achievement by gifting all players the “Just Picked Up SF6” title.

Street Fighter 6 has been achieving overwhelmingly positive critical acclaim as well. Capcom’s heavy promotion of the game ever since it was announced, hosting a series of betas and even having bizarre partnerships between Street Fighter and other brands including Rebook and Chipotle. However, the game is not without its controversy. Its $49.99 Year 1 Ultimate Pass has received mostly negative reception on Steam, with there being an immense amount of confusion over the contents of the DLC pack. Nonetheless, the game’s numbers are certainly a “sonic boom” to its competition, and it is a really good start for the fighting game and the franchise as a whole. No doubt Capcom is looking at ways to capitalize on the game’s immense success.
