When Ash Ketchum and his partner Pokémon Pikachu finally won the Master Eight Tournament, and Ash became the top trainer in the world after a 25-year journey, it soon became clear that season 25 of the animated Pokémon TV series would be the last for the boy and his yellow friend. In April 2023, the 26th season started in Japan under its new title Pokémon Horizons: The Series and the Pokémon Company now revealed the premiere dates for the English dub of the show in the US, Canada, and Australia.

The series will premiere on February 23, 2024, in the US and will be available exclusively through Netflix, in Canada on March 2 through Cartoon Network and Télétoon, and in Australia on February 27 through 9Go! While the show airs in Japan on a nearly weekly basis, Netflix will likely present it in chunks of 12 episodes.

Pokémon Horizons follows the adventures of a girl named Liko and her partner Pokémon, Sprigatito after they arrive at Indigo Academy and a boy named Roy, who dreams of becoming a Pokémon trainer and carries the Ancient Poké Ball. Soon, the kids are pursued by the mysterious Explorers, who are after Liko's pendant necklace. On their journey, Liko and Roy team up with Friede, Captain Pikachu, and a group of adventurers called the Rising Volt Tacklers.

Unlike previous seasons, the events of Pokémon Horizons take place in various regions throughout the Pokémon universe, instead of just one area. The show will feature characters and critters from the Paldea region, introduced in the Nintendo Switch game Scarlet and Violett, like Liko’s starter Sprigatito, and Roy’s partner Fuecoco.

As part of the press release announcing the series's arrival on Netflix, Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing for The Pokémon Company International, said that Pokémon Horizons will be "the first new animated series released in more than 25 years, both longtime Trainers and a new generation of fans can look forward to exploring the Pokémon world in a fresh and unique way.”
