The First Trailer For ‘Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts’ Brings With It Surprising Casting

It’s been a busy week for trailer releases, The Super Mario Bros Movie on a Nintendo Direct, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Brazil Comic Con, and even Babylon and Cocaine Bear. On Friday, Paramount released the teaser trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and even revealed more casting.

After 15 years, the Transformers movies finally incorporate characters beyond that with the Maximals and the Terrorcons from Beast Wars, as well as the Predacons. All Cybertronian species with animal-based forms instead of vehicles. Off the bat, there’s a confrontation between Optimus Prime (voiced once again by Peter Cullen) and Optimus Primal, voiced by Ron PerlmanAnthony Ramos unwittingly gets inside Mirage, starting a police pursuit that Mirage’s illusory powers take care of. Cheetor runs alongside Bumblebee, and Arcee, looking more like she’s supposed to compare to the Bay films, hangs onto a Volkswagen Bus. Airazor shoots lasers at a bridge, and Rhinox roars. Let them come, indeed.

Along with the release of the teaser trailer, more of the film’s voice cast was confirmed. This includes Liza Koshy as Arcee, voice actors John DiMaggio as Stratosphere, David Sobolov as Rhinox and Battletrap, Pose’s Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as Nightbird, and Ted Lasso’s Cristo Fernández as Wheeljack, rapper Tobe Nwigwe as Reek and Peter Dinklage as the villain Scourge. They join the previously-mentioned Ramos, Cullen, Perlman, the already-announced Michelle Yeoh (voicing Airazor), Dominique Fishback, and Pete Davidson.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is directed by Steven Caple Jr. It only needed to move once due to the pandemic, from June 24, 2022, to June 9, 2023, and is still set to be released theatrically on that date.
