The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has published a series of new articles, videos, and images about how Amazon Prime’s The Rings Of Power was created behind the scenes. Done in partnership with Prime Video, this content highlights the great amount of effort put into the prequel to the famous Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. One important aspect has to be considered: while the movies had hundreds of millions of dollars and several years to produce, a television series does not have an extended amount of time to produce content. So this puts extra pressure on everyone involved to materialize what was done by writers and producers in general. This factor makes the content published by THR a gift to the fans of the franchise.

THR writers have elaborated five different articles as introductions that emphasize how much effort was put into the show. They take the public on a journey that permeates several production sectors. the variety of content is truly amazing. THR shows the public the music created, how the VFX was put into practice, besides the real sets built for the show, and the extremely realistic costumes and make-up.

This series, which was named Building Middle-earth, excels in telling the story of how the show was elaborated through the perspective of each of these sectors. For example, in the VFX one, the video shows the public how difficult the process was of adding characters of different sizes to the show. A quote from Ron Ames, one of the people responsible for VFX production, stands out: “We’re telling the story of civilizations and beings that are not the same size having to be in the same frame.”

Another important aspect highlighted was the music. This makes a big difference in movies and series, although not valued much sometimes. Composers like the incredibly talented John Williams (known for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and many others) have made their names with iconic music that has been featured in important projects throughout the years. Thus, this is very much a difference when comparing this with other shows.

As THR says,

“The right song can make or break a scene. But in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the choice in music goes beyond choosing the right track or composition. Music is written into the fabric of the entire The Lord of the Rings epic. Tolkien penned lyrics for dozens of songs, from funeral dirges to joyful tavern-drinking ditties to tunes hummed by Hobbits on their meandering strolls. For Tolkien, Middle-earth was a world full of music.”

So, it is worth checking it out. Amazon’s Prime Video production has been really good, and several series have A+ production. Besides this, the “geek” factor helps a lot. Being a show set in the LOTR  universe, fans, in general, may want to watch this just for the content itself and the approaches The Rings of Power production team takes.
