Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the writing team behind Spider-Man: Homecoming and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, are uniting once again on a new Star Trek movie. The film will be an entirely fresh take on the franchise with no connections to any current or prior Star Trek films or series. It’s been nearly a decade since Star Trek last came to the big screen. The Chris Pine-led feature Star Trek Beyond was released in 2016. Several projects were planned but never came to fruition, so this new Star Trek film is a priority for Paramount.
A recent merger put Skydance in charge of Paramount, and the writing team already has experience with Skydance. Daley and Goldstein wrote a directed Mayday for the company, a film starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Braugh, which performed well with test audiences. The film will be released on Apple TV+ sometime next year. The pair’s earlier Paramount film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, also achieved great success, earning a 91% score from critics and a 92% score from audience members. Their other works include Game Night, Vacation, Horrible Bosses, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. Representing Goldstein and Daley are CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, and Meigs & Fox.
