The 2024 Game Developers Conference sparked a fair bit of discussion and brought a lot of news.  Among this news came the announcement that Belgian video game developer Larian Studios would not be moving forward with any more Baldur’s Gate content; this includes potential whole installments to the franchise or DLC installments to current games.  The company is looking towards new content for the future, shifting its focus to subject matter outside of Dungeons & Dragons as a whole.

During the conference, CEO and founder of Larian, Swen Vincke, explained (via Polygon):

Baldur’s Gate 3 will always have a heart — a warm spot in our hearts. We’ll forever be proud of it, but we’re not going to continue it. We’re not going to make new expansions, which everybody is expecting us to do. We’re not going to make Baldur’s Gate 4, which everybody is expecting us to do. We’re going to move on, we’re going to move away from D&D, and we’re going to start making a new thing.”
