Fans at NYCC were treated to a whole lot during the Percy Jackson panel. I was fortunate enough to be one of those lucky fans. They also gave out 500 Camp Half-Blood t-shirts, that look like the one in the show. The panel gave us sneak peeks, and a discussion with the people who worked on the show, and judging from what I saw, the show is going to rule.

Percy Jackson has been adapted once before. It was made into two movies, that were not well received. However, the show appears to stay true to the book. First, we were treated to the first seven minutes of the show. It has Percy narrating familiar lines from the book. We see some flashbacks of him during his years at school, and how he started seeing mythical creatures from a young age, including the Hippocampi Blackjack. Then we are transported to Yancy Academy where Percy has befriended Grover. They go to the Met, where Chiron gives them an assignment. To help Percy, he gives him a simple pen, which fans will know as Percy’s magic sword, Riptide. The preview ended with Nancy getting pushed into the fountain.

The next scene involved the minotaur. Sally Jackson is driving Percy and Grover to camp, where they are chased by the Minotaur. The final scene we saw, was introduced by two very special guests: Rick Riordan, and his wife Becky. It's one of his favorite scenes, the Capture the Flag scene. We see the iconic scene from the book, with a fight between Percy and Clarisse. He isn’t doing too well until he makes his way to the river. He can hold his own once in the water and destroys Clarisse’s spear. This is the very first time we get to see Annabeth as well. The entire scene is a ton of fun, and I cannot wait for everyone to see it.

As a huge PJO fan, the casting is perfect. The showrunners said they got extremely lucky with the kids they found. We also got to see a little of Megan Mullally as Mrs. Dodds, and she was terrifying. Glynn Turman is also going to make a wonderful Chiron. The entire cast is amazing and is going to help make this show a special one. The sets and costumes look incredible as well, and we found out that over 300 t-shirts were dyed to get the perfect camp shirt. We saw pictures of the practical sets that were made for the show, but they also discussed using the Voulme, and how it was able to let them travel to many different places. We were also treated to new photos of the cast in their official costumes, and they truly knocked it out of the park.

While the cast themselves couldn't be there, due to the SAG strike, we got some insight as to what it was like behind the scenes. It’s evident from the content that was shown, that this show was made with so much love for the source material.  The panel was extremely entertaining and I am excited to see the entire show in December.

The two-episode premiere of Percy Jackson And The Olympians releases December 20th on Disney+.
