When a big studio sets up its own streaming service, films and TV shows it has licensed to other services are usually quickly removed from rival platforms and brought back “home”. But sometimes it works the other way round, as Disney has agreed to make a couple of shows and films from its immense roster available on Netflix:
Starting October 4, the first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be available on Netflix globally for the next three months. On the same day, the five currently released films of the Ice Age franchise (Ice Age from 2002, Ice Age: The Meltdown from 2006, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs from 2009, Ice Age: Continental Drift from 2012, and Ice Age: Collision Course from 2016) will be available for Netflix subscribers worldwide.

Other licensed titles include seasons one to four of the crime drama Will Trent, starting globally on November 3; seasons one and two of the sitcom Shifting Gears will premiere on December 1, and Tracer, seasons one to three, will be available starting February 26, 2027.
On the animation side, the deal includes the Oscar-winning Soul, in addition to Elio and Raya and the Last Dragon, plus some other, yet unannounced, titles.
Other series include Felicity (available on Netflix in the U.S. starting on October 7 and internationally at later dates), Revenge (global), Army Wives (global), Fresh Off the Boat (U.S. and select regions), and This Is Us (internationally outside the U.S. as it had been previously licensed to Netflix in 2024-25 in the United States), as well as Grey’s Anatomy, Arrested Development, Scandal and Black-ish.
As strange as this deal might look at first glance, it is a clear win-win situation for the Mouse House: Aside from the revenue it earns from Netflix, making the films and shows available for a broader audience boosts its visibility, and Disney has not only wisely chosen the titles but also set the time windows within which they will be available to match the release dates of upcoming seasons of the licensed shows, or - in the case of Ice Age - the premiere of the sixth installment, Ice Age: Boiling Point. So if you’re happy with the Disney content on Netflix, you will have no choice but to subscribe to Disney+ if you want to know how the stories continue.
And as most of the streaming giants do, Disney is still very much focused on keeping most of its original content exclusive to its own platform and channels.
