Disney+ Will Likely Have Ads On Each Plan Now

The creeping spread of ads into everything, even places which specifically touted themselves as ad-free, continues.

The latest space to show signs of cluttering screens and surfaces with ads is Disney Plus, with an update to its subscriber agreement allowing Disney to play ads before and after the service’s various programs. While this may irritate Premium Subscribers, who previously had a tier of subscription that kept them free of ads, at least their higher price point guarantees that ads will play only at the start and end of a program. Normal subscribers, meanwhile, see their programs interrupted midway through by ads in addition to before and after.

While this potential renewed push of ads into the streaming service may integrate more seamlessly in older television series or television movies uploaded to Disney+, it will still be jarring to encounter for those who have tried to escape the continuous spread of adverts. This is especially true for those who use ad blockers, as Disney can either suspend or terminate the account if it detects this tool, or even increase the user’s subscription price tier during the ad blocked program, and charge the user for that increase immediately as a cost for having used an ad blocker.

It is little consolation that many of these changes are worded as a possibility for the moment, as the fact Disney added them into their subscribed agreement means they are likely strongly considering their implementation in the near future. We’ll have to see if or how these changes come to pass in the future.
