Disney+ Moves Ahead With 'Darkwing Duck' Reboot With Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, And Lizzy Caplan

When there’s trouble, you call DW! One of Disney’s most iconic animated series is finally making a comeback! A reboot of the beloved animated series Darkwing Duck is finally moving forward on Disney+!

Created by Tad Stones (Who also created Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command), Darkwing Duck centers on Drake Mallard, a seemingly mild-mannered suburban dad by day, a crime fighting superhero by night. When the sun goes down, Drake becomes Darkwing Duck, the protector of St. Canard. Alongside his sidekick Launchpad McQuack and his own daughter Gosalyn, Darkwing fights bad guys, protects the innocent, and looks cool while doing it. The titular vigilante is voiced by Disney legend Jim Cummings and is widely considered to be his signature role. Across 3 seasons and 91 episodes, Darkwing Duck was a staple of the Disney Afternoon block in the 90s. Praised for its voice acting, theme song, and blend of action and comedy, Darkwing Duck has frequently been hailed as one of the greatest cartoons of all time. The character saw second life in the critically acclaimed Ducktales reboot in the late 2010s, where Darkwing is portrayed as a fictional character but then becomes a real life superhero. Darkwing Duck has also spawned comic books and a slew of merchandise. A Darkwing Duck reboot has been heavily demanded by fans for years with word of one beginning development circulating in 2020. An animated reboot executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg was confirmed in 2022. Jim Cummings confirmed his involvement in 2025, but stated last month that he’s no longer reprising his role. The cast of the reboot will consist of Mark Hamill as Darkwing Duck, Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn, Lilimar Hernandez as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.

While primarily known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, Mark Hamill has an extensive list of voice over credits including The Joker in multiple animated DC projects, Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Skips in Regular Show. Seth Rogen is best known for his live action roles on film and TV, most recently Olivia Wilde’s The Invite and the acclaimed Apple TV series The Studio. Last year, Rogen won 4 Primetime Emmy Awards as a showrunner, director, lead actor, and writer. Lizzy Caplan is best known for her roles as Janis Ian in Mean Girls, Marlena Diamond in Cloverfield, and Virginia E. Johnson in Masters of Sex, which earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Lilimar Hernandez is best known for voicing Cleo in Cleopatra in Space. Dan Stevens is best known for his roles as David Haller in Legion and the Beast in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Tiffany Shepis is best known for her work with Troma Entertainment, the studio where James Gunn got his start. Kathryn Newton is best known for her roles as Claire Novak in Supernatural, Joanie Clark in Halt and Catch Fire, Abigail Carlson in Big Little Lies, and Cassie Lang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Teo Briones is best known for his role as Charlie Reys in Final Destination Bloodlines. Tyler Dean Flores played Diego in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Katie Rich is a stand-up comedian who worked as a writer on Saturday Night Live for 6 years. Nat Faxon is an actor, comedian, writer, and director who won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay (alongside director Alexander Payne and Community alum Jim Rash) for The Descendants in 2012.
