The Battlefield movie that has been bouncing around Hollywood the last few months may have found its studio.

Following a bidding war earlier this year, claimed by TheWrap to likely be the largest of the year, Sony Pictures is apparently the candidate the team behind the film and EA are leaning toward. The other parties in the contest were the likes of Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal and Netflix.

Behind the scenes of the project, Michael B. Jordan is set to produce and potentially star in the film, while other producers include Elizabeth Raposo of Outlier Society, Miri Yoon of Vertigo, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, and Jesse Stern of Electronic Arts.

This project’s crystallization comes as video game projects see a resurgence across streaming services and the big screen, some seeing far more success than others. However, it also comes as Battlefield’s biggest franchise nemesis, Call of Duty, is also seeking to produce a film project adaptation. Exactly who will be first to market is currently unclear, as there are no casting announcements or projected release dates for either project.

If Sony has won the bid, this will join with their other video game adaptation efforts, including the ongoing effort to make a Helldivers film. Exactly how successful Sony might be in either effort is currently uncertain, but we’re certain to hear more news soon if a deal is struck.
